Native Animals

We value our unique native animals in Australia. Unfortunately Australia has one of the highest rates of species extinction in the world. To find out about the endangered animals in our area keep an eye on the ACT Government’s page.

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP LOCAL ANIMALS AND BIRDS?

  • Plant Bee friendly plants in your garden.
  • Try not use pesticides and herbicides in your garden.
  • Keep a shallow dish of water with rocks and sticks over the surface to allow bees to drink, but not drown, in your garden. This is particularly vital in the hot Summer months
  • Plant natives for bees and other insects to hide in during our hot summers and cold winters.
  • Be aware of feeding birds, which can do more harm than good.

There’s an App for that!

Canberra Nature Map can be used to record these sightings

Frog ID is a fun little app that you can use to help researchers collect information on the frogs in your area.
